“I hate having to be made aware and always having to use my brain about being Negro. After Martin Luther King’s assassination, somebody said, ‘Now you’re really going to work, baby.’ . . . Beauty does surpass prejudice at a point, yet sometimes the effort people are making to assimilate us seems contrived.”
This quote is from the first African American Model to grace the cover of the leading fashion magazine in the 1960’s, Ladies Home Journal. Who is she?
Pastel colors gives a airy and subtle aura to the personality of guy’s wardrobe. Most boys steer away from a jacket with multiple soft colors, but men are bold enough to embrace them showing their softer side. When looking at the jacket I think that is what it is speaking because of the teddy bear rocking ray-ban style glasses. PR
Valentine’s Dayis just in one week so for the next couple days I will be putting together love inspired look books to assist you with idea’s when preparing for the romantic day or night.
This fun and youthful look is inspired by the head to toe denim trend that you may have seen in magazine spreads these pass couple of months. The skirt is high waist which is very flirtatious when going out on a heart filled date with Mr.Guy. The denim shirt may be tucked, in with a couple buttons open, or leave it out and wrap a thin belt around the waist. Suggestion:If your city is very chilly you don’t have turn your cheek, just add a pair of knit tights in colors such as soft pink, white,or black and a thick coat to warm you up a little. PR

Sequins executed in the best way possible?? = on a NIKE sneaker.. uhduhr! I told myself that being neutral and simple would be my direction from now on, but when my eyes caught a glance at these, all that went out the door.. well kinda. The X- girl blazers (adore that name by the way) is a sneaker worth coping if you want to sparkle and grab the attention of others, or if your like me and can care less what anyone thinks, you can just cop to feed your fly addiction. - BrittSense
sidenote: DO NOT WEAR WITH ANYTHING ELSE SEQUINED pu-Lease! The center of attention should only be the sneaker.
Release Date: sometime this month, stay tuned into the blog.
Greetings From Paris, France (taken at the bar literally 10 steps from my Parisian apartment downtown Paris)
Before traveling out of the country, I was not too in tune with various ethnic backgrounds. If I saw someone with brown skin-I assumed they were African American, much lighter skin- I assumed they were Caucasian, more of a mid tone - i thought Hispanic or Latino.
BUT once I came to Europe and experienced a myriad amount of diversity, i was immediately drawn to learning more about the ethnic backgrounds of people who reside here.
Within the group of my french friends, alone, i have managed to meet a gentlemen who looks like he is African-American, but actually clarified that he was born in South Africa (speaks his native language and french), grew up in New York (has a huge East Coast Accent), Spent time in France with relatives (he is also of creole descent and can speak a little of the language) then, from his time in the US from age 6-18 he learned to speak English. Now, just by looking at him I thought he was a native English speaker like myself, but he happens to have the exquisitely interesting background that attributes to more than just having brown skin and results in him speaking four languages fluently.- YOU SHOULD NEVER JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER…more to come.
I was initially suppose to meet a classmate and work on a school project Saturday afternoon, but we happened to miss each other in passing at Chatlet (Sh-at-lae) - a nice metropolitan area that is 3-6 blocks full of retail stores downtown Paris.
After being bombarded by the numerous people walking and shopping on this cold Saturday afternoon, I walk into a women’s boutique (the size of a two cubicles) with tons of people walking throughout the store. I brushed past a rack of cute dresses and tops just to notice that NONE of them had sizes! I looked at another rack and saw that there were still no sizes neither on the tag or inside label. i finally picked up two of the same shirt on opposite ends (thinking they could have been arranged by size) and noticed that there was NO difference in the dimensions of these shirts!
This store obviously sold “one size fits all french women” because I was not squeezing into any of those garments! - I was hoping this wasn’t the case for all stores in this area.
As I perused the shopping area more and come across a men’s store that had great markdowns all over the window (delavine.com), originally I was hesitant walking in, but it quickly registered in my mind that french men being wear very fitted garments so i might find something cute for myself…and boy was I right!
varsity jackets are always a classic piece
Got this Cardigan for 5euros!
The plaid shirt was on display with a cute bow tie- got them both for 7euros!!
Of course they may not look like much here but with my fashion mind state I already have the perfect looks that will make them my own!
And, YES! This store actually had Medium, Large, XL, & XXL sizes so don’t go thinking all Paris shops don’t have sizes, it was just the first one I went into. =)
Earlier this week I was sitting in my Parisian style Management class, with about 20students cramped in a cubicle size room(EVERYTHING IS SMALLER IN PARIS).
Before class began I was speaking to my friend about my trip to a local bar and 5 seconds into my story a guy sitting behind me pokes his head into our conversation and yells…”DID YOU JUST SAY HELLA?!” I slowly turned around with an obscure look on my face and hesitantly replied “uhh yeah…” He had this odd looking smile of comfort on his face and happily said “oh my gosh where are you from?” Still confused about what this guy was getting to I said “California, why?” he finally expressed that he was from San Francisco and he had not heard anyone say HELLA since he had been in Paris, so he immediately felt a sense of comfort by hearing me utter that word.
I must admit, I was rightfully ashamed that by a simple word I used in an “A & B” conversation led to me realizing that I AM A VICTIM OF SAYING “HELLA”.
Now that I am aware of this, I am slowly but surely trying to eliminate this Northern California “term” out of my vocabulary. =D
I DEFINITELY KNOW WHAT NOT TO SAY AS A VISITOR IS FRANCE
