Truth: MODEL RENEE THOMPSON

Monday, July 26th, 2010

ONLY QUESTION: WILL THERE EVER BE A DAY WHERE AFRICAN AMERICANS ARE TRUELY ACCEPTED?

My Answer/Opinion: Probably.. NOT. Which is the EXACT reason on why I HIGHLY respect Model Renee Thompson for going against “the odds” and still working on towards her dream. Everything said in this documentary Ive heard plenty of times, but It will FOREVER be MINDBLOWING at first when you hear the IGNORANT thoughts of some people in the industry.

“WHITE LIKE FEATURES? “We like white girls dipped in chocolate?” what does that even REALLY mean, and why is THAT considered BEAUTY? If we treated the modeling industry as an ART, DIVERSITY would “sell” wouldnt it? This documentary hits close to home not only because Im a african american woman myself, but I am also breaking into the relm of fashion photography. Each day I think to myself on how I have to ”prove that im good enough” just because of my skin color, which Makes me think even more about what is being looked at.

Is my actual ART INCREDIBLE because of the content, or is it “good enough” because Im black?

My advice to all African American’s in the Industry: Take Renee’s advice and be a SORE in their eyes, giving up is NEVER an option because that means they have won, and YOU are indeed the winner.- Brittsense
